About State Society
With a plethora of musical tastes and backgrounds ranging from blues to rock to pop rock, metal and
alternative, the band “State Society” shows no limitations with their writing ability and style. Starting
in September 2011 with a three man line up and recently adding an additional member to become a
four piece. “State Society ” has done nothing but try to break the mould of today’s boring repetitive
commercial/ pop rock genre remaining true to the set objective of their project, “easy listening
positive music”. With music influenced by bands such as Dave Mathews, Foo fighters, The Temper
Trap, U2, The Narrow, Coldplay and the likes. State Society mixes commercial rock, pop rock, hard
rock and a “feel good” element together seamlessly. The vocals are a mixture of choral multiples
including a call to anthem in their lyrics that have a definite social conscience. This band tries their
hardest to be real to everyone they come in contact with and be professional on every level, from
live to studio and relationships with fellow bands, promoters, event organisers last and most
importantly their fans.
After playing a countless number of shows in the last year they called it their “Club Tour”, across
South Africa in the middle of recording their debut album “State Society” is preparing to start a new
chapter. They have just finished recording their debut full length album entitled “This Life”. They are
releasing it independently as a testament to all their hard work over the last two years. After the
CD’s release the band is planning on continuing to play shows for anyone and everyone into the
year, while also searching for a label to possibly call home. “Music Videos, TV/Radio Interviews,
festivals and fan engagement, including lining up the writing process for our second album are in our
sights” says Cliff the front man of the band. So be ready and gear up for “State Society” as they make
a name for themselves.

About The Carolina Bridal Party
The Carolina Bridal Party, an oldschool styled Blues band with strange origins
http://www.reverbnation.com/thecarolinabridalparty?profile_view_source=head
A hunter’s moon peered out from behind the clouds, as four strangers strode down destiny’s path
towards their inevitable meeting. On this night of nights our strangers were heading for a local
whisky joint filled with rats, sailors, hoars and dirty glasses. The dive was packed and the smell of
sweat and smoke filled your nostrils, it was the perfect place for a fight, the bloody knuckles and
broken noses of the patrons testified to that.
Some nerd was playing folk guitar on the stage and soon flying bottles and bar stools hastened the
end of his gig. Amongst this frenzied collection of drunks and mercenaries, a lone warrior guitarist
stood tall before them. With an ebony Les Paul and a bottle of Johnnie Walker, Murray began with a
lick that shut the unruly crowd up. Soon his fingertips glowed like red hot embers as the notes
electrified the air. From the back corner a heavy bearded man named Shaun downed his tenth
Nordic ale and leapt on the stage. With his base guitar in his hands he grooved as smooth as
chocolate milk.
Soon Gert stood on the stage and riffed as an equal, his fingers dancing amongst the frets like they
were on cocaine.
Now the joint was really packed and the whiskey was flowing like a river. The final adventurer to join
the trio was Kyle, a titan of percussion; he sat behind the drums and unleashed a furious beat that
sounded like he played with switchblades and hand grenades instead of sticks and hi-hats.
The crowd seethed, the walls shook. The whole place was tearing at the seams and soon the building
began to crumble and burn before the mighty sound of the blues. The crowd did not care they let
the rafters, bricks and mortar tumble around them and danced the night away beneath the gaze of a
hunters moon
About The Barcode Bandits
The Barcode Bandits got together in July 2012. The band has ‘found themselves’ exceptionally
quickly and are now a solid and cohesive unit.
The Barcode Bandits are dedicated to breaking away from the world’s events and walking their own
path. They are the bandits of the barcode system that society follows each and every day. Even
though it’s a simple three- piece acoustic band, the powerful rock still oozes out of each and every
song they perform. ‘Music has been the best medium for them to express their views and feelings on
the universe’.
You would be forgiven for thinking that this is a young band just starting up, but each member brings
a lot of experience from past and present projects. They are very familiar with the
Gauteng’s music venues and are rapidly increasing their fan base with every gig they perform.

About Stone Griffin
A long time ago whilst the fires were burning bright
A dark cloud arose which suffocated the light
The light which shone upon each of our souls
The light that meant to give us pure rock & roll
As the glory and beauty slowly faded away
The prophecy we believe was the only way
That one day there would come a new kind
Same at the heart but different in mind
The order of the gods unlocked his mighty tomb
To come save us all from destruction and doom
Ripped from the cradle, freed from the stone
Destined to reign and watch from his throne
To rescue his people from a world that was torn
That’s when the mighty stone griffin was born

About Chaz Nielsen
Front man of Metal band Because of Betrayal, Chaz Nielsen is also an awesome acoustic solo
performer, his confident attitude in front of crowds makes the task of being the MC for the day a
very good choice, Chaz will also be doing a short acoustic performance on the day if time allows it.

Savanna Newcomer Showcase

SAVANNA NEWCOMER SHOWCASE SAVANNA NEWCOMER SHOWCASE

In partnership with The Times, Mzansi Magic and Kaya FM 95.9

Be part of the audience as SA’s top comedians come out to watch this year’s up-and-coming comics battle it out for votes at the Savanna Newcomer Showcase on 6 May at the Soweto Theatre.  As part of the build up to the Savanna CCA’s (Comics’ Choice Awards) that takes place in August, this unique comedy showcase kicks off a few months prior and sees all registered comedians in the newcomer category perform a few minutes of stand-up in front of SA’s finest. Why? So the comedy industry knows who to vote for, of course.

SAVANNA NEWCOMER SHOWCASE SAVANNA NEWCOMER SHOWCASE

Voting opens on 25 April and closes on 22 June, so winners aren’t announced on the night, but that’s not the point is it? The point is for the comedy gurus to see them in action before they cast their vote, as this particular category is not open to the public to choose; it’s their peers who decide.

Between 20 and 30 budding hopefuls from across the country, each have five minutes to impress the audience and make them laugh more – and louder – than their comedic comrades. Last year’s inaugural showcase was electric, with routines ranging from hybrid-vernac and Afrikaans to upper-crust English.  Schalk Bezuidenhout received a standing ovation and went on to win the award at the main event, so the heat is on for the newcomers to deliver the performance of their lives. The show lasts about two hours and you’re guaranteed a good time with pioneering stand-up legend Kagiso Lediga as MC.

“You can expect fast-paced, slick deliveries and plenty of improprieties,” comments John Vlismas, founder of the Savanna CCA’s. “The calibre of these beginners will astound you; their material’s fresh, sharp and downright rude but their topics are current and their routines are carried with well-timed wit. Of course there may be one or two newbies who bomb, but in a room full of comedians that’s almost as funny as the guys who are great.”

“We were inspired to create this developmental initiative to give the newcomers the opportunity to shine,” comments Liezl Dippenaar, marketing manager of Savanna. “Our aim is to be totally inclusive; every newcomer’s invited, we’ll even fly in the out-of-towners and put them up for the night.  Ultimately, this is an intimate evening of diversity and world class comedy where the new guys get to hang out with the old guys. We’re proud to be associated with it.”

Watch the press and the Savanna CCA social media for the nominee announcement, which takes place on 25 June 2014.

The Savanna Newcomer Showcase takes place at the Soweto Theatre on Tuesday, 6 May, at 7pm for 8pm.

Tickets: Computicket (www.computicket.co.za) at R70.

At the “Old Mill”, Magaliesberg

About This Event

Thirteen years ago, Woodland School in Magaliesberg approached Cellar Rats Wine Tasting Club to assist them with an annual fund raising event, and the Cellar Rats Spring Wine Festival was born. Five years ago we realized that there is no festival in Joburg to showcase the Fortified wines produced in South Africa, so we decided to produce a Port and Sherry festival, which has been renamed as the Port & Red Wine Festival.

Now in its 6th year, the Cellar Rats Port & Red Wine Festival still promotes an ethos of “good living“.

This family festival is held at the historic “Old Mill“, on the banks of the picturesque Magalies River, approx. 40 minutes from Jhb’s Northern Suburbs.  The atmosphere is relaxed and convivial, and several bonfires will be provided around the venue for warming you up once the sun starts setting and for toasting marshmallows.

Our emphasis is on tasting South Africa’s best fortified and red wines in a great outdoor setting. To this end, more than 50 producers will present in excess of 140 products for your enjoyment.

Sunday 25th May 2014 – Gates open at 11h00. The festival runs from 11h00 to 15h00.

Relax and taste these great Fortified and red wines, while your kids have fun in the great outdoors!   Jumping Castles & Supervised Entertainment for children will be available.

Children’s activities

Jumping castle and supervised entertainment for children arranged by Happy Acres, including sport activities; animal & plant displays and much more.

Woodland School

Woodland school is a non-subsidised, non-profit rural school in Magaliesburg. This community run school was established in 1999. Since its inception Woodland School has been able to keep the school fees affordable for the local community by running fundraisers and appealing for donations. The school has a bursary system and at the moment we support a number of children on two different bursary schemes.

The school arranges 3 fundraisers every year. The purpose of these fundraisers is to support the development of the school. Projects we have tackled in the past include building new classrooms, building a new toilet block, equipping a modern computer centre, stocking a library and leveling a sport and athletics field. The school has also been able to buy very good textbooks and readers for the children at the school. All of these projects would have been impossible to tackle without fundraising money. The results of our fundraising has had a major effect on the overall educational experience for the children at our school.

In addition to shopping for gourmet goodies at the artisan food market, visitors can dine in style at one of the pop-up restaurants manned by South African and overseas celebrity chefs, who will be whipping up their signature dishes on site.

When they aren’t busy having a ball in the park-like surrounds of Emmarentia, children will be kept entertained in the kids’ area hosted by DStv, which will include attractions featuring Nickelodeon and Boomerang characters.

And for those who wish to treat themselves to a more exclusive festival experience, the DELICIOUS LOUNGE ARE will play host to a premium bar and a viewing deck over the main stage.

This chilled-out open-air festival attracted some 20 000 visitors to its inaugural event last October, with the combination of scrumptious food and superb music proving a sure-fire winner with the crowds.

The 2014 DStv Delicious Festival promises an even broader kaleidoscope of flavours and experiences, catering for dyed-in-the-wool gastronomes, ordinary food fanatics and those who enjoy savouring

A-grade live music.

VWV Massive is once again producing and promoting this high-end lifestyle festival. “The VWV group have been responsible for some of the biggest events in SA, most notably the FIFA 2010 World Cup opening ceremony, so you can rest assured that the price you pay to attend this world-class event will be worth every cent,” says Lloyd Cornwall, Director of VWV Massive

General admission for the DStv Delicious Festival is R450,  (early-bird tickets sold out already) available from Computicket

(R100 for under-12s; free entrance for children under three). Visit www.computicket.com or phone

Generations star, Slindile Nodangala, also known as Ruby Dikobe in the most watched SA soapie in South Africa, has added her voice to the Trinco Tea “Walk a Mile in My Shoes” School Challenge.
SLINDILE NODANGALA

For seven million South African school children, their lack of shoes is hampering their ability to get an education. And while no one questions the importance of a good education in escaping poverty and improving job opportunities, the lack of even one pair of shoes can keep children out of school simply because the road is too rough or the weather too cold to walk any distance in their bare feet.

Trinco Tea is doing something about this.  Their newly-launched CSI campaign to 540 schools in Gauteng and the Free State is called ‘Walk a Mile in my Shoes’ and aims to provide school shoes to learners who need them. The Challenge encourages pupils to collect as many empty Trinco Tea packets as possible and bring them to school. The ten schools who collect the most Trinco Tea packets will win R20 000 worth of school/computer equipment. Furthermore the Top 3 of these 10 schools will received a brand new pair of Green Cross school shoes for each of their learners. Teachers are also not forgotten, they too will receive a pair of Green Cross shoes.

TRINCO

To build more awareness of this worthwhile campaign, Trinco Tea will be hosting fun activation’s at various shopping malls in and around the Gauteng and Free State regions, with the first dates confirmed for THABONG SHOPPING CENTRE, SEBOKENG in VEREENIGING on Saturday, 19 and Sunday, 20 April 2014. The public can look forward to great fun, lots of activities, a DJ set and of course many prizes!

The campaign closes at the end of July 2014, after which the top ten schools who collected the most Trinco Tea packets will be announced. This is a great way to support the school children in your area – help them collect Trinco Tea packets! Put your best foot forward and help a school child win a pair of shoes with Trinco the great tasting, great value tea.

About Trinco Tea

Trinco is made from carefully chosen and blended teas from Malawi and Zimbabwe. Available in South Africa since 1979, the African teas from which Trinco is blended are recognised around the world for their consistent quality, invigorating aroma and refreshing taste. Tea plantations are situated in high, humid areas that provide the perfect altitude and weather conditions to produce tender, flavour-filled tea leaves, which are then carefully handpicked. Our tea tasters, skilled to pick up the subtle differences from plantation to plantation, take great care to ensure that only the finest teas are chosen for the Trinco blend. This creates the distinctive, delicious, smooth Trinco taste.
